Strides for Stability replaces Move for Mental Health

Seattle’s fourth annual Move for Mental Health, renamed Strides for Stability, was held Saturday, September 18, 2004 at Magnuson Park. New this year was a partnership between Community Psychiatric Clinic and Sand Point Community Housing Association. The event generated over $30,000 in revenue from donations, registrations and sponsors, and was attended by 325 people.

This year’s event focused on the desperate need for housing for the homeless and mentally ill. King County Councilman Tom Rasmussen kicked off the event as keynote speaker. Councilman Rasmussen, chair of the council's Committee on Housing, Health, and Human Services, spoke eloquently on the impact of affordable housing for vulnerable populations.

All participants were provided t-shirts, refreshments and sports bags containing valuable mental health information, including an opportunity to win many random prizes.

Over 60 volunteers devoted their time on event day. Without their support, and the support of a dedicated group of individuals who worked on organizing the event for several months, Strides for Stability could not have happened.

We are extremely grateful to our sponsors and supporters, who donated both money and goods to make this year's event a success.
