CPC awarded contract for Access to Recovery

June 2005 - Access to Recovery is a new King County initiative to expand substance abuse treatment and recovery support services and provide consumer choice in the selection of service providers.

The Access to Recovery Program (ATR) is part of a national initiative to increase substance abuse and recovery support services. The State of Washington was awarded a 3-year grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) and King County is among the six counties in the state to receive funding.

The King County program model is a collaboration across the community, which will expand access to a comprehensive array of clinical substance abuse treatment and recovery support options for low income individuals.CPC has been awarded the contract to coordinate Access to Recovery services for King County clients.

The purpose of this project is to provide recovery services to qualifying individuals and their family members and assist them in becoming productive members of their communities. This program is designed to help people reach recovery in body, mind, and heart.

Choice is a major component of this project. Access to Recovery is based on the knowledge that there are many pathways to recovery from addiction. The promise of this initiative - founded on a belief in individual choice - is that it ensures the availability of a full range of treatment options, including the transforming power of faith.

Some examples of recovery services are: mental health counseling, preventive services for client family members, transportation, housing assistance, child care, job readiness/vocational counseling, etc. In addition to the traditional providers of these services, faith-based organizations are encouraged to participate as providers.

In King County, access to ATR services requires a referral to Community Psychiatric Clinic from one of the following agencies:

	Child Protective Services
	King County Health Care for the Homeless
	Washington State Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral, and Treatment (Harborview Addictions Program)
	Community Health Centers of King County
	Supportive Housing Programs (designated providers)
	Recovery Centers of King County
	Detoxification Centers
	King County Adult Outpatient Chemical Dependency Treatment Programs
