Wallingford House
Wallingford House is an ICCD-certified clubhouse program, designed as a recovery community for individuals who have been socially and vocationally isolated by mental illness. The program offers members the chance to develop self-esteem, self-worth, confidence and a sense of purpose while building foundations to achieve other goals, such as employment and education.
The clubhouse offers members the opportunity to complete daily tasks in a highly structured and supportive environment and develop work readiness skills utilizing the same type of equipment and procedures found in the business community. Clubhouse members prepare and serve lunch, operate a snack bar, track attendance, run a reception desk, and put out a newsletter. The club is also responsible for its finances, menu planning and food purchases, providing orientation and outreach to members, and also offers social activities. The program also maintains staff-supported transitional employment opportunities in community businesses.
The specialized training and assistance provided by the Wallingford House Clubhouse allows members to focus on pre-employment issues and job readiness, as well as learn critical job skills, in a supportive and comfortable environment. The clubhouse helps members develop both concrete job skills and the self-confidence and motivation needed to get and keep a job in the community.
Clubhouse members must have a diagnosed mental illness and a referral from a mental health clinician or case manager, although they do not have to be CPC mental health clients. Clubhouse staff will assist interested clients in getting a referral. For more information, visit the Wallingford House website at www.wallingfordhouse.org.
