Harbor House Safe Haven

Harbor House provides 20 units of housing and engagement services for chronically homeless, mentally ill individuals who may be disabled by alcoholism or substance abuse. Harbor House is based on the Safe Haven model, which is an early Housing First model designed to get treatment-resistant homeless individuals into safe and stable housing, and then engage them in treatment through building trust and encouraging engagement with on-site clinicians.  This highly-successful program has been featured in a nationally-distributed film documentary and training manual that serves as a model for the development of Safe Haven programs across the country.

Services provided at Harbor House include:

  • Education on mental health, drugs and alcohol, including the conflicting effects of prescribed medications and illicit use of drugs/alcohol
